Counselling with a CBT Basis
Counselling is a type of talking therapy. However, the term “counselling” is often used broadly and inaccurately to include all types of talking therapies.
Counselling involves talking to a trained counsellor about problems. Counsellors are trained to listen in an accepting and empathetic way in order to help with distressing thoughts and feelings. Counsellors do not offer advice but rather support the individual in finding their own solutions to their problems. Other widely used therapies for specific problems are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends the use of counselling for treatment of mild to moderate depression. Bereavement counselling can also be helpful after the loss of a loved one. Counselling is also useful when problems start to appear, before they get serious or chronic.
Moving Minds has a network of appropriately trained and fully qualified counsellors across the UK to provide counselling services to our clients. Treatment is regularly reviewed via psychometric evaluations in order to ensure that progress is being made and over-treatment does not occur.
